Do you practice what you post?

Do you practice what you post?

Social media is a wonderful thing. it's taken the world by storm and as we all hide behind the glow of our computer screens, this infinite world of facebook, twitter and online forums call to us, practically begging us to post. Post away.

But as we sit typing away endless opinions trying to “win the internet” we need to realize that words are powerful and as you use them, you open the door to criticism.

I will admit I've had many moments with social media. I've posted things i didn't mean, it's only human of us all to make mistakes. However, as we post things and tie our names to them, it’s important to note that when you enter into a public forum you’re going to get just that a public forum so you better mean what you say.

I don't know why people keep posting things that may hurt someone. why cant they realize this ?
What is it about social media that people don’t understand? You enter into these things to be “social.” If you’re going to post your opinion, be prepared to back it up. If you don’t wish to back it up, send a personal letter or email in a NON-public format. Common sense? You’d think.

There’s this funny little ditty out there called “trolling.” Actually, it’s not funny. It’s stupid. This is where you get on the internet and you post things just to get people all wound up. The reason people even do this is because people outraged enough to go on rants on Facebook or other public forums get all bent out of shape when someone opposes them… and when that happens, the trolls get off on it. They enjoy the thrill of making people mad without having to face the conflict face to face.
So I suppose the moral of the story is that social media is an extensive soap box for each of us to preach upon but if we preach publicly, practice what you post and post what you practice and most of all, if you post it publicly remember it is just public. Opposing viewpoints are out there.
